This Statue of Panchmukhi Hanuman is situated in Kunda Satyanarayana Kala Dhaam in Nalginda district of Andhra Pradesh. “Panchmukhi” that stands for the one who has five faces or heads. According to epic Ramayana, during the battle between Shri Ram and Lankapati Ravana, Ravana took aid of Ahiravana, the king of Patala Nagri. Ahiravana in the disguise of Vibhishana, tricked Shri Ram and Lakshaman and took them to the Patala Loka.

Lord Hanuman went to Patala in search of Lord Rama and Lakshman and discovered five lamps that were placed in different directions. Ahiravana could only be killed if those five lamps were extinguished at the same time. Lord Hanuman took the Panchmukhi form and put out all the five lamps to kill Ahiravana.
